DAY 1 ARRIVE IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA: You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. There is time to relax or explore one of the world’s largest and most vibrant cities before meeting your fellow travelers and Tour Director for a Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2 MOSCOW SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME: Your Moscow sightseeing tour begins at Red Square, dominated by the vivid St. Basil’s Cathedral and the massive red walls of the Kremlin. Visit the Armory Museum and its impressive collection of Tsarist, Russian, and foreign jewelry, armor, and other artifacts. After walking by Moscow University, drive along the wide Muscovite boulevards and then stroll through GUM, the largest department store in Russia. Continue on the north bank of the River Moskva to pass by the baroque Novodevichy convent. Your tour ends ends at the famed Arbat district, with time to shop or find a restaurant for savory pelmeni or sweet blini. The rest of your day is yours to spend as you wish.

DAY 3 MOSCOW & EXCURSION TO SERGIEV POSAD: Take an excursion to the small town of Sergiev Posad, formerly Zagorsk, founded in the 14th century and long a place of religious pilgrimage and center of ancient Russian art. Within the old walled city admire the shining golden and blue domes of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, one of the most beautiful monasteries in the world. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to Moscow and the rest of the day you are free to relax or explore. This evening perhaps take an optional tour, Moscow by Night & Subway, to see the famed Soviet-era metro stations with their marble floors, murals, mosaics and intricate chandeliers.

DAY 4 MOSCOW / ST. PETERSBURG: You will have some free time in Moscow before the transfer to the railway station to board your four-hour high-speed Sapsan train to St. Petersburg, called the “Venice of the North” due to the 100 islands and more than 600 bridges that span the city’s canals. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for dinner. In the evening, relax or attend an optional Russian Folklore performance.

DAY 5 ST. PETERSBURG SIGHTSEEING: Few cities in the world can match the grace and elegance of St. Petersburg with its brightly-painted Neoclassical and Baroque-style architecture. Visit the grand Palace Square bordering the Winter Palace, Senate Square with the monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great who founded the city, St. Isaac’s Square and St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Smolny Cathedral, the Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, and the fabled Nevsky Prospect. Also visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, built on a small island to protect the city from enemy attacks. Visit Peter and Paul Cathedral, located in the center of the fortress, that served as the main burial place for Russian Emperors beginning with Peter the Great. Your evening is free or join an optional Evening Canal Cruise.

DAY 6 ST. PETERSBURG & FREE TIME: In the morning, visit the world-famous Hermitage, one of the world’s oldest and largest museums, founded by Catherine the Great in 1764 and housing more than four million works of art.  The Hermitage occupies five buildings, the largest of which is the Winter Palace, built in 1732 as a residence for the Russian Emperors. Some of the interior architectural highlights include the Ambassador’s Staircase, the Throne Room, the Malachite Room, and the Ballroom. Admire masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Rubens, Monet and Rodin. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city on your own or you may choose to take an optional tour to Peterhof (also known as Petrodvorets), the Summer Palace of Peter the Great. The lavish décor of the buildings is rivaled only by its famous Grand Cascade of fountains and golden statuary. Tonight join your fellow travelers at dinner.

DAY 7 ST. PETERSBURG / NARVA, ESTONIA / TALLINN: Journey to Narva, just across the Estonian border on your way to Tallinn. Estonia’s capital city is known for its medieval architecture and sits on the coast of the Gulf of Finland.

DAY 8 TALLINN / RIGA, LATVIA: A walking tour of Tallinn takes you to the Upper and Lower Old Town and visits Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Also visit Toompea Castle and see the 14th-century gothic Town Hall. In the afternoon, travel to Latvia’s capital city of Riga.

DAY 9 RIGA SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME: On your tour of Riga you will see the magnificent Dome Cathedral, St. Jacob’s Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, Parliament Building, Liberty Monument, and a district featuring Art Nouveau houses. The afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy.

DAY 10 RIGA / VILNIUS, LITHUANIA: Travel to Lithuania and the capital of Vilnius. The balance of the day is yours to relax or begin discovering the city while wandering some of the cobblestone streets. Join your traveling companions for dinner.

DAY 11 VILNIUS SIGHTSEEING: Vilnius, located on the confluence of the Neris and Velnele Rivers, is known for its baroque architecture. In Old Vilnius, visit St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church and St. Anne’s Church. View Vilnius University, dating back to 1570, Gediminas’ Tower in the Upper Town, and Vilnius Castle. The afternoon is yours; perhaps find a cafe for potato dumplings, or you may want to join an optional excursion to Trakai, a picturesque lakeside resort.

DAY 12 VILNIUS / WARSAW, POLAND: Sit back and relax on a travel day through the Lithuanian and Polish countryside and farmland. Arrive in Warsaw, the 700-year-old capital of Poland, at the end of the day.

DAY 13 WARSAW SIGHTSEEING: Your Warsaw sightseeing tour includes a drive along the Royal Route, from Castle Square to Lazienki Park and Palace, the summer residence of the last king of Poland. Pass by the Palace of Science and Culture, the Saxon Gardens, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the Barbican. A walking tour takes you to Old Town, Old Market Square and St. John’s Cathedral. The rest of the day you are free to take a relaxing stroll through some of the numerous parks and gardens, or perhaps attend an optional late afternoon concert of Chopin’s music.

DAY 14 WARSAW / CZESTOCHOWA / AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU / KRAKOW: Journey south to Czestochowa and visit the Yasna Gora Monastery, known for its blackened picture of the Virgin Mary. In the afternoon take a sobering tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the haunting World War II concentration camp and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Finish your day in Krakow, one of the oldest cities in Poland.

DAY 15 KRAKOW SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME: Start your tour with Wawel Hill to view the Royal Castle and visit the Royal Cathedral. The afternoon is yours to wander, browsing through shops, sampling pierogi and bigos stew, or simply relaxing.

DAY 16 KRAKOW / PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC: Your drive across the charming Polish countryside takes you over the Slovakian border and into the Czech Republic. Finish your day in the capital city of Prague, built on seven hills and featuring Baroque churches, promenades, parks, and ancient walls.

DAY 17 PRAGUE SIGHTSEEING: Once the capital of both Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire, Prague features graceful bridges spanning the Vltava River, lush green hills, and architecture straight out of fairy tales. A sightseeing tour starts with panoramic drive to Wenceslas Square, the Strahov Stadium and Castle Square. Then, on your walking tour, visit the Royal Castle of Hradcany with the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica and Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower. Crossing the Charles Bridge, walk through the old quarter of Prague to view the Jewish Ghetto, Town Hall and world-famous Astronomical Clock. The rest of the day is yours to explore more of the city or attend an optional cultural performance.

DAY 19 VIENNA SIGHTSEEING: On a morning sightseeing tour of this “City of Waltz,” visit the Hofburg Palace, the former residence of the Habsberg emperors, and view the Belvedere Palace, Prater Amusement Park, the UN Buildings, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and other reminders of the city’s imperial heritage. Your afternoon is free before joining your traveling companions at a local restaurant for a Farewell Dinner.
