DAY 1 ARRIVE IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA: You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. There is time to relax or explore the capital of Russia before meeting your fellow travelers and Tour Director for a Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2 MOSCOW SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME: Your Moscow sightseeing tour begins at Red Square, dominated by colorful St. Basil’s Cathedral and by the massive red walls of the Kremlin. Visit the Armory Museum, with its impressive collection of Tsarist, Russian, and foreign jewelry, armor, and other artifacts. Then walk by Moscow University. Continue with a drive along the wide boulevards and a stroll through GUM, Russia’s largest department store. Continue on the north bank of the River Moskva, passing by the baroque Novodevichy convent; ending the tour at the popular Arbat shopping district, with time to shop or enjoy lunch on your own. The balance of your day is yours to spend as you wish.

DAY 3 MOSCOW & EXCURSION TO SERGIEV POSAD: Today we travel 75 km north of Moscow, to the small town of Sergiev Posad, formerly Zagorsk – founded in the 14th century and renowned as a center of ancient Russian art and architecture. Within the old walled city admire the fairy-tale golden and blue domes of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, one of the most beautiful of all monasteries. After lunch at a popular restaurant, return to Moscow and the rest of the day you are free to relax or explore. This evening perhaps take an optional tour, Moscow by Night & Subway, to see the famed Soviet-era metro stations with their marble floors, mosaics, and murals.

DAY 4 MOSCOW / ST. PETERSBURG: Time at leisure in Moscow, before transfer to the railway station for a four-hour high-speed Sapsan train ride to St. Petersburg. Upon arrival, transfer to your St. Petersburg hotel for dinner. Join an optional Russian Folklore evening.

DAY 5 ST. PETERSBURG SIGHTSEEING: Few cities in the world can match the grace and elegance of St. Petersburg with its Neoclassical and Baroque-style architecture. Visit the grand Palace Square with the Winter Palace, Senate Square with the monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great who founded the city in 1703, St. Isaac’s Square with St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Smolny Cathedral, the Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, and the fabled Nevsky Prospect. Also visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, built on a small island to protect the city from enemy attacks. Visit Peter and Paul Cathedral, which towers in the center of the fortress served as the main burial place for Russian Emperors beginning with Peter the Great. Your evening is free or join an optional Evening Canal Cruise.

DAY 6 ST. PETERSBURG & FREE TIME: In the morning, visit the world-famous Hermitage, one of the world’s oldest and largest museums, founded by Catherine the Great in 1764 and housing more than three million exhibits.  The Hermitage occupies five buildings, the largest of which is the Winter Palace, built in 1732 as a residence for the Russian Emperors. Some of the interior architectural highlights include the Ambassador’s Staircase, the Throne Room, the Malachite Room, and the Ballroom. Admire masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Velasquez, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, French Impressionists, and Rodin. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city on your own or perhaps you may choose to take an optional tour to Peterhof (also known as Petrodvorets), the Summer Palace of Peter the Great. The lavish décor of the buildings is rivaled only by its famous Grand Cascade of fountains and golden statuary. Tonight join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner.
