DAY 1 ARRIVE IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND: Arrival in Zurich and transfer to your hotel.
DAY 2 ZURICH: In the morning you enjoy a sightseeing tour of Zurich and its main monuments: take in the fabulous views of the Alps and Lake Zurich from the Höhenstrasse. Stop briefly in Rapperswil, the quaint city of roses. On your way back to Zurich you enjoy a lovely cruise on Lake Zurich (no guide). Arrival at Zürich-Bürkliplatz landing in Zurich and make your own way back to the hotel. (B)
DAY 3 ZURICH / LUZERN / MOUNT TITLIS / INTERLAKEN: After breakfast, depart for Luzern. Enjoy a short sightseeing tour and then have free time to explore Luzern on your own. At noon, continue to Engelberg. Take the rotating Rotair cable car to the top of Mount Titlis and its spectacular glacier. From an elevation of 3,020 meters, visitors enjoy breathtaking views of the Central Alps. In the afternoon you visit the lakeside town of Brienz and see the talented woodcarving artisans. Continue to Interlaken, at the foot of Mount Jungfrau. (B)
DAY 4 INTERLAKEN / BERN / GRUYERES / GENEVA: From Interlaken you will drive along Lake Thun to Bern, located on the Aare River, overlooking the Alps. Visit the city before continuing to Gruyeres, a picturesque village with an impressive medieval castle. (B)
DAY 5 GENEVA / MONTREUX / ZERMATT: Sightseeing tour of Geneva. Visit the beautiful parks along the lake, the cathedral, and the European headquarters of the UN. Then travel to Lausanne and Montreux with its magnificent Chillon Castle, with some free time to visit Montreux. In the afternoon you explore the Rodano river valley as far as Täsch. From here you continue by narrow gauge train to Zermatt, nestled at the foot of mighty Mount Matterhorn. Dinner in your hotel tonight. (B/D)
DAY 6 ZERMATT / NUFENEN PASS / ZURICH: In the morning you are free to explore at your leisure or undertake an optional excursion to the top of Mount Gornegrat (not included). In the afternoon you return to Täsch where you board the bus for a spectacular drive over the high Nufenen mountain pass to Airolo. Return to Zurich. (B)
DAY 7 ZURICH / MUNICH: After breakfast transfer to the train station and travel by train to Munich. Arrive in Munich and visit the city’s main attractions, concluding the tour at the Marienplatz square with its famous clock tower. The capital of Bavaria state, Munich is famous for its Oktoberfest, celebrated annually in September. The afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. In the evening you enjoy a traditional Bavarian dinner. (B/D)
DAY 8 MUNICH / PASSAU / LINZ: In the morning you travel to Passau. This city, on the border between Germany and Austria, has a very privileged location on the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz rivers. In the afternoon, cross the Austrian border to the city of Linz, a picturesque town on the banks of the Danube river. (B)
DAY 9 LINZ / DÜRNSTEIN / MELK / VIENNA: After breakfast, enjoy a short stop at the village of Dürnstein, nestled in the heart of the magnificent Wachau Valley. The charming town of Dürnstein offers the unique combination of a breathtaking scenery and traditional architecture. It was in the Kuenringer Castle, whose ruins still overlook Dürnstein, that the English King Richard Lionheart was held prisoner. Continue to Melk for a short visit to the famous Abbey. Finally, arrive in the magnificent capital of Austria for overnight. (B)
DAY 10 VIENNA: After breakfast, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Vienna. Admire the Opera, Hofburg Palace, Heroes Gate, Parliament, the Council and the other attractions. Your afternoon is free to explore Vienna at your leisure. This evening you may choose to attend a gala dinner accompanied by live classical music (optional, not included). (B)
DAY 11 VIENNA / LAKE DISTRICT / SALZBURG: In the morning you will continue to the Lake District and ascend Mount Zwölferhorn by cable car to enjoy wonderful views over the Lake Wolfgang. Next to the city of Salzburg, where the genius composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born, and you will enjoy a sightseeing tour with examples of breathtaking Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque artistry. Your visit also includes the world famous Mirabell Gardens and seeing the house where Mozart grew up. (B)
DAY 12 SALZBURG / BERCHTESGADEN / CHIEMSEE / MUNICH: After breakfast, travel along the Königsee River Valley, through the Bavarian mountains, along romantic farmhouses to Obersalzberg. Special buses and an elevator will bring us to the Eagle’s Nest. From there continue to Lake Chiemsee, the “Bavarian Sea” for a short stop and then onward to Munich. (B)
DAY 13 MUNICH / USA: After breakfast, transfer to Munich airport for return flight to US. (B)
