Northern Ireland Golf Discovery

DAY 1 ARRIVE IN DUBLIN / NEWCASTLE: Welcome to Ireland! After collecting your bags, you will meet with your driver in the arrival’s hall at Dublin Airport. Shortly afterwards, you will depart and start your journey north towards Newcastle. Pause in Balbriggan where you will enjoy breakfast in the Man O’War Pub. Afterwards, travel past the gentle slopes of the Mourne Mountains to your hotel located on the coast of County Down. The remainder of your day is free to relax and prepare for some great days of golf!

DAY 2 GOLF ROYAL COUNTY DOWN: Enjoy breakfast before a short drive to Royal County Down Golf Club. Voted No.1 golf course in the world by Golf Digest, Royal County Down Golf Club was founded in 1889. The club has 36-holes; the Championship Course measuring 7,037 yards Par 71 with a standard scratch of 75 from the blue tees and the somewhat shorter Annesley Links at 4,708 yards Par-66. The Championship course is a links course that is renowned worldwide as one of the finest links tests in the world. Host to the Irish Open in 2015 won by Soren Kjeldsen, the first nine holes are ranked by many as the finest opening nine anywhere. The constantly undulating layout will challenge every part of your game with “tightish” fairways, many grassy-topped pot bunkers and tricky greens – every hole is a classic links test. Afterwards, return to your hotel for overnight. (B)

DAY 3 GOLF ARDGLASS: After breakfast, depart from Newcastle and drive approximately 30 minutes to Ardglass Golf Course.  Ardglass Golf Course is an 18-hole links course on the north-eastern coast of Ireland with some stunning views and unique golf holes. Founded in 1896, the course creates a challenging test of golf, particularly on a windy day. The course hugs the coastline, with the Irish Sea visible from all 18 holes and on a clear day it is possible to see across to the Isle of Man. The Par 3 2nd, the Par 5 11th and the Par 3 12th require a carry across the coastline and cliffs tops of the Irish Sea and rank among the best holes in Ireland. After your game, depart from Ardglass and make your way towards Bushmills located on the north coast of County Antrim. You might choose to pause in Belfast to visit the Titanic Belfast. It is located in the heart of the city, on the slipways where RMS Titanic was built. You truly re-live the entire Titanic story from her birth in Belfast to the fateful maiden voyage and her eventual discovery on the seabed. Overnight in Bushmills. (B)

DAY 4: GOLF ROYAL PORTRUSH: Shortly after breakfast, make your way to Royal Portrush Golf Club. Royal Portrush Golf Club is home to one of the best and most challenging links golf courses in the world, the Dunluce Links, and the hidden gem, the Valley Links. It is situated on the beautiful North Antrim Causeway coast, with magnificent views in all directions. In July 2019 the Dunluce was the host venue for the 2019 Open Championship won by Ireland’s Shane Lowry. The Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush Golf Club ranks among the world’s greatest courses. Thick rough and testing greens combined with the unpredictable weather of the roaring North Atlantic make this course an admirable test for even the most seasoned golfer. The course is routed through rugged links land, and constantly changes in both direction and elevation, whilst all the time providing some of the most awe-inspiring scenery to be found in Ireland.

The Valley Course lies between the East Strand and the Dunluce golf course. As its name suggests, the course is situated between the huge sand hills immediately along the Atlantic shore and the higher ground on which the Championship course is laid out. The Valley has more than its fair share of the humps, hollows and undulations to be found on any links worthy of the name. This 6,304-yard, par 70 course is a very fine test of links golf, with the greens, in particular, every bit as well tended as on the Dunluce Course. Return to Bushmills for overnight. (B)
Hotel Name: Bushmills Inn

DAY 5: GOLF PORTSTEWART GOLF CLUB: After breakfast in your hotel, head west towards Portstewart. Portstewart Golf Club founded in 1894 is a links course located on the Causeway Coast, Co Derry. Portstewart is one of the few Clubs in Ireland with three 18-hole golf courses – the Old, the Riverside, and the Strand.

The jewel in the Portstewart crown is undoubtedly the Strand Course. The Irish Open won by rising world star Jon Rahm was played here in 2017 adding to the popularity of the course. It is a true test of golf set on classic links land, with elevated tees, towering sand dunes and rolling valleys which all combine to give a fascinating challenge of traditional golf. There are spectacular views at every turn of the Donegal Hills, Atlantic Ocean and the River Bann. Later, return to Bushmills for overnight. (B)
Hotel Name: Bushmills Inn

DAY 6 BUSHMILLS / DUBLIN: Today, depart from Bushmills and head south towards Dublin. On arrival in Dublin, enjoy your afternoon at leisure to explore at your own pace. Overnight in Dublin. (B)
Hotel Name: Brooks Hotel.

DAY 7 GOLF PORTMARNOCK: After breakfast, head to Portmarnock Golf Club, another of Ireland’s finest. Surrounded by water on three sides, no two successive holes play in the same direction, making weather judgment all the more difficult. Just ask the greats from Arnold Palmer to Gary Player to Rory McIlroy. They’ve all tried to figure out the wind just as you will. Then it’s on to Dublin where the remainder of your day is free. (B)
Hotel Name: Brooks Hotel.

DAY 8 DUBLIN / USA: After breakfast, transfer to Dublin airport for your return flight home to the United States. Put away your clubs but hold on to your stories of taking on Northern Ireland’s best courses. (B)
