DAY 1 ARRIVE IN LIMA: Welcome to Peru! After collecting your bags, you will meet with your tour manager. Shortly afterwards, you will depart and make your way to your hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure.
DAY 2 LIMA: After breakfast, depart on a city tour of Lima. Visit the Larco Museum. This unique museum contains a large collection of pottery from Inca and pre-Inca civilizations as well as erotic art pieces. Afterwards, visit the Basílica y Convento de San Francisco, the Spanish name for Saint Francis Monastery. The church and convent are part of the Historic Center of Lima, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1991. Continue your city tour of Lima and enjoy some free time in the Main Square area. This evening enjoy dinner in Lima. (B/D)
DAY 3 LIMA / CUSCO: This morning, board a flight to Cusco. On arrival, make your way to visit the Chinchero community in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Chinchero features an Incan archaeological site, a colonial church, and living Incan culture and traditions. On Sundays, a colorful and lively market fascinates people with its variety of handicrafts and textiles made in true pre-Columbian style. Transfer to “El Mirador de Racchi” for a splendid view of the Sacred Valley. Enjoy lunch before continuing to your hotel. Overnight in Sacred Valley area. (B, L)
DAY 4 SACRED VALLEY: The Scared Valley of Peru. The Inca loved this valley which was cut by the Urubamba River and offered fertile soil that allowed the rising empire to feed its people. This reverence led to the name Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the Ollantaytambo ruins, a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces on a hillside. Major sites within the complex include the huge Sun Temple and the Princess Baths fountain. Afterwards, enjoy lunch in a typical local restaurant. Enjoy some free time. One of its best-preserved areas, known as Hanan Huacaypata, lies north of the main square and contains 15 estates built with elegantly crafted stone walls. Overnight in Sacred Valley area. (B/L)
DAY 5 MACHU PICCHU: This morning you will be transferred to Ollantaytambo train station. Our adventure starts on a train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes, then it’s on to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu archaeological site. Nestled high in the slopes of the Andes, the ruins of Machu Picchu continue to reveal the mysteries of the Inca Empire. Enjoy your guided tour of the ruins before returning by bus and train to Ollantaytambo station. Transfer to your hotel in Cusco. (B)
DAY 6 CUSCO: After breakfast, depart on a half day city tour of Cusco. Explore the center of the Inca Empire, the Plaza de Armas and see the cathedral built on the ruins of the ancient Inca Palace. Visit the old town with its magnificent renovated colonial buildings. Proceed to Sacsayhuaman, a ruins site located approximately 3 km above Cusco that boasts fabulous views over the city. Afterwards, your afternoon is at leisure in Cusco. (B)
DAY 7 CUSCO / PUNO: Depart from Cusco and start your journey towards Puno. Travel through the Peruvian highland along the snow-covered peaks of the Andes, passing small villages, and reaching its highest point in La Raya. On the route you will visit the town of Andahuaylillas, the ruins of Racchi, and the small town of Pucara. Lunch in a typical restaurant is included. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival in Puno, known as the “Folklore Capital of Peru.” (B/L)
DAY 8 UROS ISLANDS / LIMA: This morning, depart on an excursion to the islands of Uros on Titicaca Lake. Many of the inhabitants of the Uros islands still practice the old traditions of fishing and living on the lake on floating islands built out of reeds. The narrow island of Taquile is home to numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins and Inca terracing. Here you enjoy lunch and time to shop for locally hand-woven items. Then transfer to Juliaca and your flight to Lima. On arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B/L/D)
DAY 9 LIMA / IGUASSÚ: After breakfast, depart for the airport and your flight to Iguassú. Overnight Foz do Iguassú. (B)
DAY 10 IGUASSÚ: After breakfast, depart to visit Iguaçu Falls, one of the world’s largest waterfalls. Stretching for 2.7 km, and straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, the falls comprise hundreds of cascades, including the 80m-tall Devil’s Throat. Enjoy breathtaking views as you visit both the Argentina and Brazil sides of the falls. Overnight in Foz do Iguassú. (B)
DAY 11 IGUASSÚ / BUENOS AIRES: Enjoy breakfast before departing for the airport and your flight to Buenos Aires. On arrival, transfer to your hotel where you enjoy some free time. This evening you will be taken to the tango house Viejo Almacén to enjoy an impressive tango show, as well as some exquisite cuisine. (B/D)
DAY 12 BUENOS AIRES: After breakfast, depart on a tour to discover the charm of Argentina’s capital, from the chic districts of Recoleta and Palermo, to the historic Plaza del Mayo, and on to architectural icons such as the Colon Opera house, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Palace of Congress. Visit the Old Town of San Telmo, home of the city’s aristocracy until the late 19th century; then Caminito street in La Boca, the colorful shelter for Italian immigrants; and later enjoy lunch in a restaurant at the Puerto Madero waterfront. The remainder of you day is free to explore. (B/L)
DAY 13 BUENOS AIRES / RIO DE JANEIRO: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy free time to explore. Rio de Janeiro was Brazil’s Capital from 1763 to 1960 and is now the Capital of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Ideally located between the mountains and the sea, Rio is one of the most visited cities in the world. It is blessed with a magnificent shoreline, beautiful white sand beaches, vast museums and cultural attractions, and a lively nightlife. (B)
DAY 14 RIO DE JANEIRO: Enjoy breakfast before departing on a full-day city tour of Rio de Janeiro. Board a cog train for the scenic ride through Tijuca Forest up Corcovado Mountain to view the towering statue of Christ the Redeemer. Descend by train and head past Rio’s world-famous beaches, then board a cable car for a two-staged ascent up Sugar Loaf Mountain. Visit the downtown area, and Sambadrome the site of Rio’s famous Carnival parade. This evening, enjoy dinner and a Samba Show featuring skilled dancers, samba bands, and colorful costumes. (B/D)
DAY 15 RIO DE JANEIRO / USA: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the USA. (B)
